It’s been a whirlwind of activity for the whole team at Your Excellency over the last week. As well as delivering 3 back to back days of finance training for inhouse clients and putting the finishes touches to our new A-Z Digital Course, we have also attended 2 topnotch events – shout out to The PA Way who held their first ever “Rock n Glow” learning & development Conference and BBO PA Network who held their annual Network Awards evening. I had the pleasure of meeting existing and new PA professionals at these events and I’ve have had some very interesting conversations…one such conversation has sparked this #lunchnlearnwithlindsay issue.
One of my existing clients shared some shocking news of a role she took on a few months ago. Excited and “raring to go” in this role, she was very quickly disullousioned that the role wasn’t all it had been made out to be. She was horrified at some of the activities that were taking place and, indeed, some of the dishonest working practices she was being asked to perform by her Executive. Needless to say she is now well out of this position and has settled in a more stable role where business integrity and professionalism is at the heart of everything the organisation does.
It got me to thinking about the need for aligning your morals (what’s right, what’s wrong), ethics and values with your Executive and organisation (and of course with your life). There is an innate human want and need to feel “love and belonging” and if you’re immersed in an environment and surrounded by people who support, value and/or share your values this is more likely to occur. I am reminded of two blog posts on these subjects which you can read here and here.
My client’s news also reminded me of the time that I stayed overnight at a hotel and was delighted to discover Netflix was available on the tele in my room – however it had been logged in from a previous room guest who had obviously forgotten to log out! Dilemma – should I stay logged in on their account and watch something or should I log out for them and trawl through Sky instead? It didn’t feel right taking advantage of someone else’s account…what would you have done?
