| Welcome to 🍏Lunch n Learn with Lindsay🍏 Issue 232 Gatekeeper OR Gateway? Here’s some “food for thought” for you! I wrote my book “A-Z Pearls of Wisdom for Executive PAs” back in 2015. Then in 2022 I issued a second edition. I knew how important it was to update the content for you, my EA and PA readers, so the learning remained current and relevant to the role and profession. As well as redesigning the cover, one of the chapters I changed was Chapter G. In my 2015 book edition G is for Gatekeeper In 2022 G is for Gateway This was a subtle yet powerful change, replacing the term ‘Gatekeeper’ with ‘Gateway.’ Why? Because ‘Gatekeeper’ implies restriction—someone who blocks or controls access. It can feel exclusive, even adversarial. On the other hand, ‘Gateway’ is about opportunity and flow. It suggests an Executive Assistant is a strategic partner who facilitates connections, clears obstacles, and ensures the right people and ideas come together at the right time. This shift is all about mindset too. It reflects the dynamic, empowering role that EAs and PAs play in driving collaboration, enabling productivity, and ultimately, helping leaders and teams thrive. My belief is we should stop limiting EAs and PAs to being the keepers of gates and start recognizing them as the gateways to impact and success. What do you think? |
