Lunch and Learn with Lindsay – Issue 51: 10 things to be grateful for as a 21st century PA: Part 8

Welcome back to a continuation of the 10 things to be grateful for as a 21st century PA.  We are on the Eighth Thing (you can catch up on Previous Things here!).  This Thing is in perfect alignment wth the start of “Administrative Professionals Week” too.

The Eighth Thing :  Recognition and Awards

We all love that pat on the back as recognition that we’re doing a great job. If it’s not something you’re getting in the workplace, you will find my new blog post “Why you’re not getting the recognition you deserve” a very interesting read.

To gain recognition, you can put yourself forward (or nominate your colleagues) for an Award too.  Take my daughter’s advice and  “Google it mummy” for professional awards in your area – you’ll be pleasantly surprised just how many there are!  Read more below on a few of my favourites here in the UK.

The Office Management Awards
Plans are afoot to celebrate the first of these Awards in the summer of this year (with a face to face event in London yippee!).  It has been a delight to be a Judge for The Office Manager category and it won’t be long before details are shared on the second of these events to shine a light on this profession. Now is the perfect time for you to consider entering or nominating.
Wearethecity Rising Star Awards
I’ve been a fan of these awards (and this fantastic website and community) for a long time – as this blog post “Our girls”  encouraging entries and nominations proves!

West Midlands PA Awards

The fabulous team at PA Forum headed up by Daniel Skermer are inviting nominations and entries for this year’s West Midlands PA Awards.  To find out more, you can read Dan’s latest newsletter here.

BBO PA Network (Bucks, Berks & Oxon)
This Autumn sees the very first Network Awards from BBO PA Network.  I chatted with a very excited Sarah Howson, Founder this weekend, who commented:

“Taking time to publicly recognise the achievements of passionate, hard working, professional Assistants is important to us. We want to shine a light on the business support industry and do it with BBO style! We have so much talent in our profession across Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire – let’s recognise it! We’ll be rewarding and most importantly celebrating our successes together to inspire the next generation of Assistants. If you’d like to know more about the 2021 BBO PA Network Awards, ensure you’ve signed up to hear from us – www.bbopanetwork.co.uk”.
