| The quote below is one I shared with my EA coachee last week. My coachee wanted some input and learning on goal setting and decision making. I love this quote. Did you know that the part of our brain we use to store memories is also the same part of the brain that we use for imagination? Which fits with another of my favourite quotes: “Memory and imagination have the same neurological circuits and they potentially have the same impact.” I interpret this to mean that we can, in essence, create a “future memory”, something we can strive towards and a preview to life’s coming attractions. We can metaphorically step forward in time and imagine how life will be when we have achieved our goals or done the things we want or need to do. And wooo!! That’s an incredibly powerful thing to do, particularly if we make it as “sensory rich” as we can. Give it a go now. Imagine that you’ve achieved that thing you’re procrastinating over or you’ve been putting off doing. What can you see yourself doing now you’ve achieved it? What’s going on around you? What can you hear? What are you saying to yourself? What are others saying to you? How do you feel now you’ve achieved this? And what’s the first step you will take NOW to make this happen? |
