| Welcome to Issue 168 of 🍏Lunch N Learn with Lindsay🍏 and a continuation of learning on Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP). If you missed last week’s introduction to the fascinating topic that is NLP, you can read this here. Let’s hone in on the core principles or Pillars of NLP, as shown in the Model below. I’ll expand on each of these in turn over the next few issues and hope these explanations spark your interest! Rapport This is about the relationship with yourself. It is about having congruence and integrity whereby the whole of you is in alignment. Rapport is also about relationships with others in order to effectively influence and achieve what you really want. You can read more on Rapport here. Sensory Awareness This is the “Neuro” of Neuro Linguistic Programming which means using your senses – primarily looking at, listening to and feeling what is happening to you and others. Outcome Thinking This is establishing exactly what you want. This could be what you want in any given situation or a larger life outcome. Behavioural Flexibility This is about using choice to act or think differently when your current behaviour is not working. Behavioural Flexibility is essential in achieving your outcome. It’s also covered under the Self Regulation domain of Emotional Intelligence which you can read more about here. Curiosity This forms the foundations of the Model. It is about accepting that you don’t know all the answers but you are willing to use curiosity to investigate and understand what is happening within each of the four pillars. It is about questioning and noticing what you notice. Presuppositions These are about freeing the beliefs and values that you hold. In conjunction with a non-judgmental curiosity, presuppositions can expand learning and awareness. |
