Here is Issue 181 of 🍏Lunch N Learn with Lindsay 🍏 Inspiration for today’s post comes from my “Dear Santa” list (I definitely feature on Santa’s NICE list, honestly!). In the Taylor family, we each draw up a list of Christmas wishes to circulate – top of mine is always a wish for a healthy and happy festive season and new year ahead. Then it’s closely followed by all manner of (often bizarre) gift ideas. On my list this year are theatre tickets to “The King and I” in London. I have happy memories of watching this film with my granny when I was little, then twirling around in a big twirly skirt and singing along to “Getting to know you”! And “Getting to know you” is crucial if we are to create and maintain the best relationship, the sentiments of which I share in my article featured in Executive Support Magazine here. As a qualified coach, one of the most creative ways of “Getting to know you” is to use “comparative coaching”. This is where you ask someone to compare themselves to different items and identify the similarities and reasons for picking that item. Here’s an example for you: If you were a festive dessert, what would you be? And what similarities are there between this dessert and you? What are you reasons for choosing this dessert? Want to know my response to this?! I’d be a trifle (for those not “in the know” about this traditional English dessert, here’s a gorgeous recipe from BBC Good Food!) A trifle can be traditional but also have the option to be made up differently with more exotic fruits or flavours depending on your mood It’s got a cheeky soaking of Sherry soaked fruit and cake and three very different layers The top layer is sprinkled with colourful “hundreds and thousands” Now, let me ask you some more comparative coaching questions? If you were an item of furniture what would you be? An item of clothing? A day of the week? A book? A song? |
