| Welcome to 🍏Lunch n Learn with Lindsay🍏 Issue 246. For this Issue, I’m taking inspiration from a photo I took on my recent travels around Hong Kong. I made much use of the Mass Transit Railway (MTR) (like the London Underground for all my London-ites) because it’s a fantastic and easy way to get around. Throughout the MTR stations though, you are bombarded by messages and rules at every turn. I have to admit that my travel buddy and I shared regular “Public Service Announcement” posts on our personal Facebook Accounts making fun of some of the more obscure messages or those that got a bit lost in translation…. It’s the below message and advice that resonated with me on a business level though. Whilst I would prefer to change the wording to “TAKE YOUR TIME” as this would be more inspirational than a “DO NOT” command (remember this archive LNL on motivational language here?), it did make me think… We are often so busy rushing around and getting things done, that we fail to notice what’s right in front of us (metaphorically and physically!). And, of course, rushing around may result in trip ups (metaphorically and physically) too… This rushing around may be fuelled by the fact that we are living and working in a fast-paced society with the need for instant gratification – information can be shared at the touch of a button with the potential to go viral, to inspire and motivate for good or to disgruntle or harm for bad. We’re caught up in the speed and the expectation of rushing to get things done right now which may result in mounting pressure on ourselves as we strive to be better, faster, more efficient, more productive ….. Is this need for an instant fast-paced ‘slickness’ of operation fuelling the need to rush? Shouldn’t we take our time, be more mindful of what’s around us? So today’s advice to take forward into your working week is DO NOT RUSH or TAKE YOUR TIME! |
