| Welcome to Issue 264. I’m joining you from a sunbathed Your Excellency HQ today. Working from the kitchen worktop with the back door open, there’s a huge grin on my face as I survey the neatness of the garden. Malcolm & I spent a good 5 hours yesterday tidying up including putting the covers on the garden furniture, cutting back some plants and adding new bedding colour for some late autumn and winter interest. Needless to say we’re both a bit achey today and our early morning walk was at a more gentle pace than our usual “route march”! I love it when I’m up to date with jobs and my task list (be that work or home!) is under control. How about you? I can definitely say my “Task List” satisfaction level this morning is high. On that note, I’m taking today’s learning from one the Units of our Ofqual Regulated Qualification Programme, The Essential PA. “Principles of Self Development” shares strategies, models and learning to help our learners proactively promote and advocate their development. One of the exercises I share is what I fondly call “The Wonky Wheel Exercise”. I’m inviting you to complete this today. Divide up a wheel into different areas of your life using spokes of differing lengths representative of your satisfaction level. The middle of your wheel is 0 and the outer rim is 10. 10 is your highest satisfaction life with the spoke reaching that outer rim. The areas you divide your wheel into are personal to you of course but here are some suggestions: Business/Career Finances/Money Health Personal Growth Leisure, Fun & Recreation Physical Environment Join up your spokes! Now, how wonky is your wheel?! If you were to attach your wheel to a vehicle today, how smooth would your journey be? Now to address your satisfaction levels and ensure a smoother ride and less wonky wheel, for each area ask: What is important to me in this area of my life? What are my goals in this area of my life? What can I do or what needs to happen to ensure the satisfaction level I need or want? This is a useful exercise isn’t it? So my journey for this week is a busy and enjoyable one. Tomorrow I’m sharing the first Unit of our Essential PA Programme with our new September Cohort, Wednesday I’m supporting a networking group with their quarterly Personal SWOT session then Thursday I’m in London for The PA Show. As a long-standing partner of this Show I can highly recommend it for an inspirational and informative event and would love to see you there – either at our Your Excellency Stand No 50 or at my speaking session “Communicate with IMPACT”. Head here to find out more and book your place, making sure you pop into your booking form that you’ve came through my recommendation. |
