Welcome to 🍏Lunch N Learn with Lindsay🍏 Issue 200. Last week I had the pleasure of sharing a training session for The Office Management Group’s Premium Members entitled “Precision Language : The power of words to promote positivity”. (We love the work The Office Management Group does to champion the office professional! If you haven’t discovered this fabulous community and resource, head to their website here and quote YE20 to get 20% off Premium Membership on the Portal.) I shared the difference between Towards Thinking and Away From Thinking (read more here) and then emphasised the importance of Cognitive Reframing, a technique used to adjust your mindset and consider things from a different (and more positive) perspective. Reframing is crucial to employ when you find yourself stepping into negativity and doubt with your thinking and resulting words and language. The image shows an example of a statement that has been positively reframed. Have a go at reframing these sentences and I will provide my inputs next week: 1. What if I fail? 2. I haven’t got a clue! (in response to a question a team member asks you) 3. I don’t know how to do this! 4. I’ve never done this before! 5. I don’t like change. 6. I can’t be bothered to do this. Make a conscious effort this week to be aware of when your thinking and wording would benefit from a (positive) reframe – it can make a huge difference to your enjoyment of the week. |
