Lunch and Learn with Lindsay – Issue 201: Cognitive Reframing Part 2

Welcome to 🍏Lunch N Learn with Lindsay🍏 Issue 201.

In Issue 200 I asked you to “get your thinking hat” on and add more positivity to your thinking and language.  How did you get on?

I also encouraged you to use positive reframing on six statements below. As promised, here’s my inputs to compare and supplement with your own reframes.

1. What if I fail?
What if I succeed? And, of course, “there is no failure, only feedback”!

2. I haven’t got a clue! (in response to a question a team member asks you)
That is a GREAT question!  I don’t fully know the answer to this – let me find out and I’ll get back to you! (your reputation is retained when you DO get back of course – set a diary reminder!)

OR
That is a GREAT question!  Why don’t you join me and we’ll find out the answer together? (tapping into Johari’s Window Model  – when the info is in the UNKNOWN window and you move it to the OPEN window with the added bonus of working together to find the answer!)

3. I don’t know how to do this!
This is a great opportunity to learn a new skill and how to do something new.  Who do I know that can help me?  Where can I go to learn this?

4. I’ve never done this before!
The very best learning can be gained from new experiences.
What have I done that’s similar?

5. I don’t like change.
This doesn’t have to be a complete change – it’s just a big different.  Life would be boring without change.  Imagine if everything stayed the same all the time!  With change comes opportunity.

6. I can’t be bothered to do this.
Let’s employ “the 10 minute rule” and get started on this.
Imagine how I’ll feel when I’ve achieved this.
