Lunch and Learn with Lindsay – Issue 225: Options-Procedures : Meta Programme

Welcome to 🍏Lunch n Learn with Lindsay🍏 Issue 225.

If you missed the intro to this Meta Programmes topic, you can catch up here.

This week we are covering the Options V Procedures Meta Programme.

Where do you “sit” on the behaviour line?  Where does your Executive or team member “sit”?  What are the similarities in your behaviour?  What are the differences?  How can you adapt your language to create better rapport and ensure the very best working relationship?

Remember, flexibility with your thinking, behaviours and language is key. We know that  “People like people who are like themselves”.

The Options V Procedures Meta Programme

Running an Options Meta Programme means you favour choices and possibilities.

Running a Procedures Meta Programme means you follow a set way of doing things.

A “giveaway”  clue for those who are more Procedural is the language structure as they’ll follow a step-by-step guide (firstly, secondly, finally or one, two, three…).

Take a read of the script below:

Q: How are you getting on booking travel for your Executive to head to the Sales Conference in India next month?

Options Individual :  Amazingly well thank you!  I’ve researched all the airlines that fly to Delhi and there are some great flight prices at the moment. In fact, my Exec could fly premium economy with one particular airline for the normal price of economy…

Procedures Individual : Firstly, I’ve called the corporate travel agent to get this booked because we need to ensure we follow the SoP for this.  Economy travel only of course. The next step is to issue an itinerary to my Exec.

Thinking about that particular scenario, there are definite pros and cons to the different ways of operating aren’t there?  Whilst we absolutely need to adhere to company procedures, always ensure that procedure is current, relevant and fit for purpose. And, of course, ensure that you aren’t following that procedure for “procedure’s sake” and to satisfy your Meta Programme!    In this scenaria, our Procedures individual sounds like they could be missing out on getting a great flight price for their Exec in premium economy!

As ever,  I hope you’ve enjoyed this read and learning!
