I’ve just privately messaged a work colleague to provide feedback on something he posted on social media. Unfortunately he had included a misspelling of the word “your” (which should have read “you’re”).
Sometimes it’s easy to read what you think is there and, even after proof reading your work, you may still have text that contains grammatical and spelling errors, mistakes that may appear “glaringly obvious” to your reader but not to yourself.
Only the other day I shared a testimonial received from a client saying I was “inciteful” rather than “insightful”. Oh dear.
Hey ho though! We’re human.
Mistakes are inevitable. It’s okay to make them and it’s good to admit to them.
Remember that Emotional Intelligence domain of “Self Regulation” which covers “being accountable, admitting to your mistakes and not blaming others when things don’t go to plan”? Owning up to mistakes makes you human and demonstrates high EI.
We can’t be perfect 24/7 and your authenticity and vulnerability when you hold your hands up and say “woops, sorry” will create a depper connection with others.
United in our “woops, sorry” moments we’re all on a learning journey (and please, if you notice a mistake I make in any posts, feel free to provide feedack and let me know. With feedack comes learning!).
