| Welcome to Issue 173 of 🍏Lunch N Learn with Lindsay🍏. I mentioned last week that I had lots of content inspiration from my India travels. So, (buckle up and scream if you want to go faster!!), today I’m sharing a bit of etimology – the study of the origin, history and evolution of words and phrases – inspired by my travels. Today’s word/phrase is “tickety-boo”! Is this a phrase that you use? A Hindi word I heard many times during my India travels was (phonetically sounding!) “teak-er”, normally repeated several times at the end of a sentence and meaning “(it’s) okay” or “(it’s) alright”. The term “tickety-boo” is likely to be derived from the Hindi phrase adopted by the British Army of “tikai babu” which is translated as “it’s all right, sir”. How fascinating is that? And, it’s such a fun sounding phrase that I’m sure it’s going to raise a smile or too if you use it. So, your challenge today (should you accept it! ) is to use that term in conversation at least once! Notice what reaction you get! And then, have a think about what’s going on in your life that’s “tickety-boo” at the moment? And to end this #LNL I am, of course, wishing you a week that is totally “tickety-boo” off the scale! x (for those interested, the photo below is the view from the Queen of Hill Stations, Shimla in the Himalayas, India! With that blue sky and view I had a definite “tickety-boo” moment!) |
